The Nand dynasty was the ruling dynasty between Magadha, Bihar, about 344- 322 BC, which was started from Mahapadmanand. The Nand ruler was the predecessor of the Maurya dynasty. Information about the earlier tribes of the Maurya dynasty is not available and which is a mixture of facts and legends.
Mahapadmanand - Local and Jain traders find that Mahapadma, the founder of this dynasty, also known as Mahapadmapati or Ugansen, belonged to the lower class of society. In the Puranas, he has been described as the destroyer of all Kshatriyas. They defeated rulers like Ikshwaku, Panchal, Kashi, Haiyya, Kaling, Ashmak, Kuru, Maithil, Shurasen and Vithhotra in northern, eastern and central India. This is also mentioned in the independent records, which indicate the occupation of Godavari valley - Andhra Pradesh, Kalinga-Orissa and some parts of Karnataka by Nand Dynasty.


The territories of this dynasty were spread across the river Byaas. Sikandar's soldiers had refused to move beyond the river Dhiya due to the fear of his military power.


Ghanananda - The last ruler of this lineage was Ghanananda very weak and oppressive!
